Ivey’s Construction, Inc. was the design-builder that provided renovations for the 15,372 sq. ft. Space Shop at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. The project encompassed the entire retail area and included the installation of a grand staircase, new railing system, themed LED lighting, customized patterned tile flooring, specialty wall coverings, a new storefront on the East and West sides, a customized gantry to highlight the astronaut signing area and new exterior signage.

Up entering the Space Shop, guests are welcomed by a high-tech virtual greeter who guides them into the facility with exciting Apollo-era stories that culminate in a man landing on the moon. Visitors can watch real life rocket launches complete with count downs on a 20′ video monitor and a LED ticker screen that runs throughout the entire store.

An actual Apollo-era Launch Pad Gantry (artifact) was modified and installed as a historical walkway along the mezzanine of the Space Shop. Ivey’s also updated the fire alarm and fire protection systems to comply with current codes, in conjunction with the back-of-house areas for Delaware North Retail operations. Ivey’s created a customized wall system to isolate the Space Shop during the renovation to minimize impact to park guests. Our aggressive schedule limited facility downtime and allowed Ivey’s to complete the project in just five months.
