The scope of work included the replacement of the spider beam, patchwork for corrosion and the disassembly of the entire rocket to ensure every “nook and crane” was inspected and repaired as needed. To avoid future deterioration Ivey’s sealed the entire rocket to ensure water and wildlife could not get back into the rocket. The Saturn 1B rocket has an annual maintenance plan in order to repair any corrosion before it becomes a serious issue.

Every member of Ivey’s Team participated in historical artifact training courses including NASA’s Voluntary Protection Program (VPP), which exceeds OSHA safety standards to make certain the Saturn 1B rocket was restored back to its original display.
