Ivey’s Construction provided construction services for the “Forever Remembered” space shuttle memorial gallery at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. Forever Remembered was conceived and designed to pay tribute to the 14 astronauts who gave their lives in pursuit of space exploration. The impactful and moving exhibit incorporates space-flown artifacts from both the Space Shuttle Challenger and Columbia disasters. Display items include personal effects from each astronaut, a section of Challenger’s left fuselage with the American flag, and the framework of Columbia’s cockpit windows.
Ivey’s worked closely with NASA to meet their strict guidelines for securing and preserving these priceless artifacts, as well as identifying appropriate security levels for the memorial. The display cases were designed for maximum security, while providing accessibility for maintenance and upgrades, as needed.
