Ivey’s Construction developed the Transport and Lift Plans that transported Space Shuttle Atlantis from the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) to the New Orbiter Display Building at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. The Atlantis Shuttle is a priceless historical artifact that weighs seventy tons and is 120-feet long. Clearing the way for the shuttle required the removal and replacement of 120 light poles, twenty-three stoplights, fifty-six traffic signs and one high voltage power line.

Ivey’s protected the shuttle with over 16,000 square feet of shrink wrap to keep it safe for the next phase of the job- raising the shuttle a full thirty feet into the air and rotating it to a precise 43.21 degrees to ensure that every exhibit visitor could appreciate this amazing piece of aerospace history. Raising the shuttle required an engineered hydraulic jacking system and lifts spanning over a three-week period to get Atlantis into its final orientation. Ivey’s communicated with NASA to complete proper documentation of the Space Shuttle Atlantis resulting in the successful relocation of the priceless artifact.
