Completed in April 2022, Ivey’s Construction provided Construction Management and General Contractor services for the new Florida Tech Health Sciences Research Center located in Melbourne, Florida. The new $18 million, 69,000-square-foot biomedical engineering and science facility features more than 20,000 square-feet of specialized, high-tech research labs and classroom space.

Designed to blend seamlessly with the architectural style of the adjacent red brick buildings, construction included multiple critical research labs equipped with cutting-edge technologies from virtual-dissection tables to atomic force microscopes, as well as a custom and iconic, three-story vaulted atrium located in the center of the building. The scope of the project involved all site and civil engineering, load bearing masonry, structural and miscellaneous metals, glass, glazing, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, access control, roofing, and custom equipment installation. The new educational facility significantly expands Florida Tech’s biomedical programs and their capacity for undergraduate and graduate scientific research.

In 2022, Ivey’s Construction was awarded the Excellence in Construction Pyramid Award from the Associated Builders and Contractors Association for the Florida Tech Health Sciences Research Center project. The Excellence in Construction Program is an industry competition that recognizes excellence in construction based on criteria that includes custom design, innovation, and safety.
