Ivey’s Construction was part of the Hensel Phelps team for the construction of the Ares 1 Mobile Launcher for the Constellation Program.
Ivey’s was contracted to perform the structural and miscellaneous steel for the 390-foot-tall tower portion of the Mobile Launcher. Each section included all stairs, catwalks, grating, handrails, electrical rooms, and elevator enclosures. The tower sections were constructed concurrently with the base portion of the mobile launcher.
Ivey’s scope of work included furnishing the material, labor, and equipment to install the following: structural steel, miscellaneous steel, stairs, steel and fiberglass grating, handrails, 11ga. steel siding, stainless steel corrugated siding, and heavy blast resistant steel plate roofs for the electrical and mechanical equipment rooms.
