Yesterday, Ivey’s Construction VP and PropellerClub Canaveral Past President, Rocky Johnson, took a group of HELM students on a behind-the-scenes tour of Cruise Terminal 3 at Port Canaveral where he walked them through the embarkation/debarkation process. The briefing provided insights about some of the terminal’s features and why they are important to its efficiency and utilization. It also highlighted how and why these innovative solutions came about and were ultimately brought into the design of the mega-terminal, which Ivey’s Construction was the Construction Manager. More importantly, the students learned about the many career opportunities available to them, including the diverse array of land-based jobs that go to support it.

Based in Rockledge High School, Help Educate Leaders in Maritime (HELM) is a maritime studies program that was spearheaded and sponsored by the Propeller Club of Port Canaveral to encourage, inspire, and educate the next generation of leaders about the various career paths that the maritime industry offers, whether directly or indirectly. It is one of only two programs of its kind in public high schools in the State of Florida. Ivey’s is a longstanding member of the Propeller Club and plays an active role in supporting the HELM program.
