Ivey’s Scope of Work:
Ivey’s Construction is a part of the Hensel Phelps team for the construction of the Ares 1 Mobile Launcher for the Constellation Program. The Ares 1 is the new rocket designed to carry the Orion crew exploration vehicle. The mobile launcher will be used in the assembly of the Ares 1 rocket, transportation of the rocket to the launch pad, and will provide support during the actual launch.
Ivey’s is contracted to perform the structural and miscellaneous steel for the 390 foot tall tower portion of the Mobile Launcher. The tower portion is about 1,300 Tons of steel and will be built in ten sections on the ground. The sections, which range in weight from 65 Tons to over 180 Tons, are then set with a 1000 ton capacity crane. Each section will be completed and include all stairs, catwalks, grating, handrails, electrical rooms, and elevator enclosures. Due to the tight schedule, other trades will be allowed to install piping and electrical equipment prior to erection of the tower sections. The tower sections will be constructed concurrently with the base portion of the mobile launcher.
Ivey’s scope of work includes furnishing the material, labor, and equipment to install the following: structural steel, miscellaneous steel, stairs, steel and fiberglass grating, handrails, 11ga. steel siding, stainless steel corrugated siding, and heavy blast resistant steel plate roofs for the electrical and mechanical equipment rooms.
