The Vehicle Assembly Building Roof Refurbishment project recently completed at Kennedy Space Center, Florida consisted of the complete demolition and re-roofing of the existing building which measured five hundred and thirty five feet tall and included 250,000 square feet of roof area.
Other features of this project included structural steel modifications to the underside roof deck area, installation of new mechanical rooftop ventilators, installation of a cathodic protection system on the underside of the roof deck to reduce corrosion of the steel, painting of the underside of the existing concrete roof slab and electrical work to support new systems installed.
The project required the erection and dismantling of a six hundred and twenty foot tower crane and personnel elevator attached to the side of the building’s exterior.
