The Nursing Home Care Unit Project involved the complete renovation of an existing 22,000 Sq. Ft. nursing home for veterans at the Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, SC. Ivey’s Construction, Inc. served as the General Contractor. The project was challenging due to hospital infection control policies, an occupied second floor (with Attorneys), and an adjacent hospital and emergency room.

The work included the complete gutting of the interior of the building, the construction of 25 patient rooms equipped with overhead patient lift systems, medical gas headwalls, and nurse call systems. The facility also includes: two kitchens, administrative offices, patient care areas, barber shop, library, fix it shop, dining and TV lounge areas, and a wet bar. The public areas of the nursing home included a lot of special architectural features that gives the facility a “Home Town” feel. .
